Patient Care Services

Clinical Expert Panel

State AIDS Clinical Expert Panel (SACEP) meeting on every Monday.

  • Patients experiencing treatment failure with first line HIV antiretroviral treatment (ART), second line ART, Third line ART and HIV associated illness, ART related side effects/complications from different ART and ART Plus centres from West Bengal, Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Assam and Sikkim are referred to SACEP.
  • Referrals are discussed and decisions regarding eligibility of antiretrovirals for treatment failures, complicated new initiations, complex opportunistic infections, drug intolerance and systematic illness are taken in presence of HIV/AIDS experts.

Other Services

  • Third line and CoE stock patients are followed up through
    • Adherence monitoring
    • Counselling
    • Recommendations of Routine blood mandatory tests
    • Plasma viral load and CD4 testing
    • Home visits (as per requirement)
    • MIS patients tracking - by telephone calls and home visits
    • Adherence counselling done for all SACEP attending patients
  • Cryptococcus antigen screening by using various qualitative & semi- quantitative kits of indoor and STM ART registered PLHIV
  • In-depth analysis on all ART centres in West Bengal under Centre of Excellence in HIV Care (CoE), STM Kolkata
  • Mentoring Visit :CoE have led to improvement in quality of Care at attached ART Centres
  • Nutritional counselling
    • Nutritional counselling for all Third line patients and first line, second line as per requirement
    • Facilitates linkages with nutritional supplementation schemes of Govt Departments and NGO
    • Attending Diabetic nutritional OPD on every Tuesday

On-going Research Activities

  1. A Study on SARS-CoV-2 co-infection among People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) receiving Antiretroviral Treatment from School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata
  2. A prospective study to evaluate incidence of Dolutegravir side effects amongst HIV positive on Antiretrovirals with Dolutegravir(50 mg) once daily as part of HAART regimen over a period of 52 weeks
  3. Active monitoring of 'Adverse Effects of Dolutegravir' at ART centre, School of Tropical Medicine Kolkata
  4. Treatment Failure and Associated Factors among Individuals on Second Line Antiretroviral Therapy in ART Centres in West Bengal: A Retrospective Cohort Study
